Welcome to the Transportation Department of Sumner County Schools. Serving over 30,000 students across our Tennessee community, we are proud to provide safe, reliable transportation that supports student learning and family needs across the district.

Our Mission

To ensure the safe and efficient transportation of all eligible students while fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive environment on every bus and in every interaction.

What We Do

The Transportation Department operates one of the largest and most comprehensive student transportation systems in the region. Each day, our dedicated team:

Operates and Maintains Over 220 Buses: Our fleet of more than 220 buses is maintained to the highest standards of safety and performance, ensuring that every ride is a safe one.
Covers Over 13,000 Miles Each Day: Across 771 daily routes, our buses travel a combined total of over 13,000 miles per day—enough to circle the Earth every three days!
Exceeds 2.4 Million Miles Annually: Throughout the year, our drivers and buses log more than 2.4 million miles, connecting students to their schools, activities, and communities.
Serves Approximately 60% of Students: Approximately 60% of students ride the bus at some point during the school year, making transportation a critical link between home and school for thousands of families.

Our Team

Our Transportation Department is made up of skilled bus drivers, monitors, mechanics, dispatchers, and support staff who share a commitment to safety, punctuality, and professionalism. Every team member plays a critical role in ensuring that students arrive at school ready to learn and return home safely each day.

Safety First

Safety is our top priority. All drivers complete extensive training, hold Commercial Driver’s Licenses with required endorsements, and participate in regular safety drills and continuing education programs. Our buses are equipped with the latest safety features, and each vehicle undergoes regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
