The technology program at JAE is designed to give our students an advantage to learn through digital and multimedia pathways. Our goal is to equip JAE students to thrive in the technology-rich environment in which we live. JAE has two computer labs that are equipped with 25 desktop computers. In our main computer lab, the PTO funded technology teacher instructs K-5 students on keyboarding, ABCya, ABCMouse, Microsoft navigation, PowerPoint, Netsmartz Internet Safety, STAR Literacy, and Study Island. Our second computer lab is primarily used to train our students to think critically and respond in writing to informational and literary texts in a digital format. Students in grades 3-5 compose creative, informative/expository, persuasive, and narrative writing.
We are extremely proud that our STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Lab is equipped with 24 iPads for students to engage in research to build background knowledge for STEM learning. We have 40 additional iPads on carts for teachers to check out from the media center to utilize in their classrooms.
In each classroom at JAE, students learn digitally through iPads, computers, an Elmo, and a classroom projector that has the capability to stream virtual educational lessons and models. Using the software, Doceri, in conjunction with AppleTvs and iPads, students have opportunities to explain their thinking and justify their answers as they project their work for the class to see.
Technology at JAE is made possible by the generous financial giving of our school community. We are very grateful for our PTO and Jags Tree House and the way they support our technology initiatives. Our PTO sponsored “Technology Trek” in October raises money to purchase a new piece of technology for each classroom. The entire JAE campus is wireless and since Internet safety is paramount, we employ a firewall to filter only age-appropriate content.
