Note
from Mrs. Riggins
Greetings!
I am so proud of my honor roll students! This time of year, subject matter and curriculum get very difficult. Many students have remained vigilant in their quest for good grades. Way to go! Remember that it's tougher now to make A's and B's than it was at the beginning of the year. I'm so happy that so many students are trying their best every single day.
I was a little disappointed in how many students didn't meet their AR goal. Please make sure your child is reading AT LEAST 20 minutes at home every night. This will help ensure their reading success! :)
It's official! We are headed to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, for our 5th grade trip. The date of the trip is Thursday, May 15. We'll be leaving school at approximately 6:30 A.M. and returning that night around 8:00 P.M. We are so excited! Think about going with us as a chaperone. Last year's parents LOVED it!!
Please email me if you have any questions and/or concerns. I'm very excited about the rest of the school year. Spring Break and TCAPs are just around the corner. Thank you for being so supportive.
Thanks,
Mrs. Riggins :)
Weekly Assignments
I will be giving the spelling pretest and assigning homework for the week on Mondays. The spelling homework will be due on Thursdays, and the spelling test on Fridays. Our Daily Language Quiz will be on Fridays as well. This quiz is over students' morning work from Monday-Thursday. They are encouraged to take home their DL workbook and study for this quiz, if needed. Math homework is typically assigned on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with a minimal amount on Wednesdays and Fridays (if any at all). Email your child's Math Club teacher if you have specific questions. Students should also be reading 20-30 minutes nightly whether they have met their AR goals or not. Science and social studies homework varies. Refer to your child's planner for specific assignments and due dates. If they aren't utilizing their planner, please encourage them to do so. :)
Long Range Plans
In social studies, we are studying World War I, the Great War. Afterwards, we'll begin our study of "The Roaring Twenties." Along with our theme units, we'll also be preparing for the TCAP test. We'll be using our brand new TCAP Coach books.
In science, we are studying "Properties and Structures of Matter." When we finish that, we'll begin our unit on "Forms of Matter and Energy." Physical science is so much fun!!
