Welcome to Mrs. Griggs' Second Grade!

Reading: At this point in the year, we should be reading close to if not more than 90 words a minute and our comprehension should be very good.  We should be able to sequence a story from beginning to end , identify the main idea, details, character, setting, plot, and theme.  We should also be able to identify the cause and effect in a story, identify facts, and opinions given by characters and the authors.

Math:

In math, we continue to work on speed with addition, subtraction, and now multiplication.  We are learning about angles, points, lines, segments, rotation, translations, and reflections.

Science:  We have had a wonderful time learning about butterflies.  We have learned all about their life-cycle.  watched them grow, drawn them, observed them closely, raised caterpillars to butterflies, and written about them.

social studies:  IN social studies, we have been learning all about goods, services, and income.  Help us out with this if you can.  Show us how an income can purchase goods and services.

English: We have learned Nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.  We know pronouns, possessive nouns, and plural nouns.  It is amazing what we can do with them.  We have been applying all this knowledge to our daily writing which we will share with you in the future! We are beginning to look at analogies through synonyms and antonyms.  We are using root words to help us get to the meaning of longer words.
