Note from the Teacher

Welcome to 1st Grade! I am very excited about this year. Please check this website often to see things that we are doing in our class daily. You may also find out information on upcoming events here as well! This is going to be a great year!

Weekly Assignments

Each week we will be having five or six vocabulary words beginning the 3rd week of school. Spelling tests will be on Fridays. We will also be having Math homework two times a week. Gradually, I will be introducing each child to the Accelerated Reading Program. After your child begins the A.R. program, they will be reading books nightly.

Reading- Please check your child's folder nightly and review the reading pages that were completed during the day. Have your child tell you about the skills on the page. Reading books and slips will be coming home on Wednesdays. It is very important that the books come back the next day.

Spelling- Please study the spelling words every night. We will be having a Spelling Test every Friday.

Math- Please check your child's take home folder daily and go over the Math page that we completed that day. Also, assist your child with their homework if they need it. Homework will continue to come home on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Science- We will be learning about different animals and how to take care of them.

Handwriting- Please continue to practice handwriting with your child. Many students are making mistakes by writing backwards letters and numbers.

Social Studies- We are working on map skills and the land around us.
