Note from the Teacher

We have an extremely busy schedule this week.  Please take note of the following:

I have sent a note home to each student about what each should bring for our end of the year picnic.  Please have items here by Wednesday.

We have nothing huge on the schedule for Tuesday except to try to finish up our poetry booklets and Tennessee booklets.

Wednesday : We had to reschedule the Moss Wright trip for Friday morning.  It is supposed to rain all day Thursday.  Sometime after lunch we will attend the 5th grade talent show.

Thursday, May 15th.  Morning/4th grade signing yearbooks.  Make sure to bring yours!

In the afternoon we will have the 4th grade multiplication bee competition.  Our top 4 students were: Tessa, Kendall,

Brad, and Cullen.  We are sending invitations to the parents of those students on Tuesday.  The competition will begin at 1:30 on Thursday in the JAE Cafeteria.  Only parents of students in the competition are invited due to limited space.

Friday, May 16th. Our students that made their AR goals have had their Moss Wright trip rescheduled for Friday morning.  After related arts (approx. 12:00)

We will walk to Avondale for our end-of-the-year class picnic.  See you there!

We will have JAG club on Monday, May 19th in the morning.

***I have offered a reward to each student who brings their

completed next year's registration card (sent home Monday) if they bring it back in on Tuesday.****

Weekly Assignments

Reading: The reading selection for this week is: To Fly: The Story of the Wright Brothers.

The target skill is:  Generalizing.    We will have our selection test on Thursday of this week.  The students really need to make sure they look up answers for their selection test.  They get to use their books to look up answers...there should be no reason to fail these tests.

Spelling:  All words this week have one of the following suffixes:

ful, ly, or -ion.   We talked about what these suffixes mean today.   We will have to take our spelling test on Thursday due to having our class picnic on Friday of this week.  Study hard!

Language:The students have almost completed their poetry books.  We will also work on 6 trait writing and DLR.  We will have a DLR Quiz on Thursday this week due to the class picnic.

Math: We are mostly trying to review multiplication facts to get ready for the Math Multiplication Bee.

Science:  I would like for the students to make solar ovens next week.  Each student needs to bring in an empty oatmeal box or empty

Pringle's can by Friday of this week so I can get them ready.

Social Studies: We will be doing some more Tennessee history activities this week.

Long Range Plans

Make sure that we stay in the habit of signing planners and taking care of homework.   Thanks so much for your cooperation with this matter.  This is our best communication tool and we really need for the students to have them here each day.

******I will be sending home an order form for ordering a school supply box from PTO for either Jack Anderson or Station Camp.  Please get those back in ASAP!  Thanks.

**Notice: My email address has changed!  You can now reach me by email at the address listed below. There are some "kinks" that need to be worked out in our new system.  Please be patient until we work them out.  You may not get a response from me as quickly as I have been able to respond in the past.  If you have an urgent message for me, calling the school might be quicker until this new system has all the bugs out of it...especially if it has to do with homework requests or bus/car rider issues.  Send a note on the bus rider thing if it is just a one day change.  Thanks so much!
