WELCOME JAE JAGUARS

With just a few weeks of school left, we have a lot of activities going on. Please watch the calendar below for daily activities, so you will know how to dress. Those activities will include: several field trips, picnics, Field Day, and end of year activities. Remember that school is not over yet, so there is still work to do and homework to complete. Have a happy Spring!

****Reminder- Parents, when you sign your child's agenda/plan book, you are signing to show that you have read the notes and checked that homework was completed. Please do not sign unless you have seen that your child's homework truly has been completed. Thank you so much for your help!

Don't forget to study spelling words for Friday! With all the activities, this is easy to forget!

Reading/Language
Students have new vocabulary words and new language structures to learn every Monday. They will also have a new reading story. Along with their text stories, they also have AR books and library books to read. They should be reading 20 minutes each evening to improve their reading skills. Also, please turn on closed captions on the television when your child is watching. Even if they cannot read every word, this will still improve their reading skills and they will pick out words they do know.
Spelling
Students will have new spelling words every Monday, taken from their new reading vocabulary. Please practice spelling words a few minutes each evening to prepare for Friday's test. You will find your child's spelling words written in the right margin in their planner each week. Fun ways to practice spelling words are with board games, rolling the dice and moving after a correctly spelled word, typing them on the computer, spelling them in playdough, pudding or shaving creme, or just fingerspelling them back to you after seeing the sign.
Writing
Students will be working each week on improving written language through writing stories, journaling, publishing their own book and doing graphic organizers. We will be using the word processor on the computer, as well as software like Kidspiration and Power Point for writing. Please watch your child's planner for ways you might help. For example, many times, students need visuals, such as pictures of family members or family events, to help them write their stories. Thank you for your help in sending these visuals with them to school or helping them work on projects by recalling these events!

Great Websites and Information for Parents!

** Attention All Parents...Your deaf child may be eligible for Video Relay Service and free equipment. SorensonCommunications now has video phone equipment. You may find out more information or apply for it by clicking on the picture below. With this equipment, you are required to have high-speed internet service. The equipment would allow your child to communicate with deaf friends or hearing adults (especially in case of emergency). It will also help him/her to become more independent by allowing him/her to communicate in sign by video phone.

* If you did not find the resource or information needed, please email Mrs. Schweinsberg and she will try to help you find the information for which you are looking.

If you read this website and send a note with your student to school, they will get a reward out of the reward box when I get the note :) Please let me know if there is any other information you would appreciate on the website.
Also, a parent signature in your child's planner gets a sticker for his/her chart and a reward when the chart is filled. This lets me know that you are aware of any homework your child has and anything that has come home in folders. Thanks for your help in keeping our communication working!

Keys to Learning
Homework is an important . Homework reinforces and allows practice of what has been taught in class for the day. This is also a way for the teacher to know if the student understands what has been taught. Without completing homework consistently, many students fall behind their peers. Please take a few minutes each evening to check and discuss your child's homework. He/She will appreciate your interest in what he/she is doing.
Another important to learning is good parent-teacher communication, especially for students who may need help communicating. I appreciate your assistance in writing comments in your child's planner. This will let me know how we can work together to give your child a great education and wonderful year. I will also look for your signature everyday. I will do my best to make sure the line of communication is open, by writing comments about your child's day, work or activities. We are a team and working together with "team spirit" is essential to your child's education. Thank you for your support!
